Details on ACM SIGSIM's support for developing researchers

Overview

Held jointly with the INFORMS Simulation Society, the Winter Simulation Conference PhD Colloquium is a showcase of the best upcoming developing researchers in simulation.  Both societies contribute financially to the event.  The Colloquium takes place on the Sunday and begins with a complementary luncheon.  Previous luncheon speakers include Professor Micheal Fu (2006) and Professor Ray Paul (2008).  PhD candidates are then given the opportunity to present their work.  At WSC 2008 Professor Paul presented his paper A Researcher's Discipline, a paper specially commissioned by ACM SIGSIM for the Colloquium.  We hope that readers find this paper stimulating!

Awards

Two prizes are then given for the best papers on contributions to simulation in Computing Sciences (the ACM SIGSIM Student Prize) and to simulation in Operations Research (the INFORMS Simulation Society Prize).  Both awards are given at the WSC opening session.
